CATALOGUE NOTE
This apparently unique tray was in all probably used to receive visiting cards. The enameled scene, Konstantin Makovsky's " A Boyar Wedding Feast," was a popular subject for Feodor Rьckert and was used to great advantage on boxes. This painting executed in 1883 by Makovsky is preserved in the collection of Hillwood Museum, Washington, DC. A table cigarette case enameled with this subject, although on a smaller scale, was sold Sotheby's New York, April 30, 2003, lot 75
