This is an important transitional piece made by Feodor Ruckert about 1908 when the master started to develop his unique signature style by introducing new shapes and highly stylized designs not seen before. The transition to new forms was largely influenced by Ruckert's sons Pavel and Feodor who around that time graduated from the Imperial Stroganov School of design in Moscow and were employed by their father.
Although the charka is done in the Moderne or so-called Pan-Slavic style typical for Ruckert objects made between 1908 and 1917, it has some unusually bright colors (particularly reddish-orange) which are not found in his later pieces and are unique for the transitional period.
Marked with 88 zolotniks standard (.916 silver) with initials of Moscow assayer Ivan Lebedkin, K.FABERGE beneath Imperial eagle overstriking workmaster's initials 'FR' of Feodor Ruckert, original Faberge's scratched inventory number 22065.
Ruckert experimented with colors not used by other enamelers of the period. The black trimming of the elaborately designed handle is highly unusual.
The upper border is decorated in Ruckert signature style of the later years with irregularly shaped ornaments in muted colors.
No other enamelers in Russia came even close to the distinguished Ruckert style although there were attempts to copy it.
