Oblong, the front and back with white-ground reserves enclosing a central flowerhead among stylized floral and foliage designs, with shaded brown borders with wirework embellishment and central pink trefoil design, each end with similar flower designs on white ground with enamelled swing handle, the hinged cover with convex border of geomentic patterns in shades of blue and brown on black ground, set in the centre with an en plein enamel plaque depicting 'The Boyar Wedding Feast' after Konstantin Makovskii, marked under base

Lot Notes
Makovskii's 'The Boyar Wedding Feast' was painted in 1883 and exhibited at the Antwerp International Exposition in 1885, where it was purchased by the American jewelry merchant Charles W. Schuman. It is now at Hillwood Museum, Washington. See also lot 184.
