SUPERB Russian silver & shaded enamel match box case, Moscow 1896 to 1907.
Of rectangular form, the top and bottom surfaces of this piece are enameled with exceptional quality scrolling floral motifs surrounding a bird, all against a vivid turquoise ground. The borders of the open faces of the box (open to allow for opening and striking matches) are enameled en suite. Marked in the field for Moscow, 1896-1907, the item is lacking a makers mark; the enamel work is of Ruckert quality. Measuring 2 5/16" (5.9 cm) by 1 9/16" (4 cm) by 13/16" (2 cm) and weighing 2.23 oz (63 grams), this is a diminutive jewel. Excellent condition.
