PROVENANCE:
Sotheby's London, Russian Works of Art, Fabergé, and Icons, November 26, 2008, lot 207; John Atzbach Antiques, Bellevue, Washington, acquired from the above; Acquired from the above by the present owner. The offered lot comes from a later period of Rückert's production, and one, which it has been suggested, was influenced by the work of his son, Pavel Feodorovich Rückert, a graduate of the Stroganov School of technical drawing. There is an extant bratina formerly in the collection of Countess Sophie de Torby, which is stylistically similar, and which may be seen illustrated in Géza von Habsburg's Fabergé Hofjuwelier der Zaren, Munich: 1986, no. 83 p. 134 which incorporates a similar decoration and palette.
